Housing
Did you know you are not entitled to tenancy until you are 18?
Most areas have housing projects which provide appropriate accommodation for young people under the age of 18.
Young people can rent housing privately, but if they are receiving benefits, most councils will only pay the equivalent of single room rent.
Renting privately is usually more expensive than renting council properties.
Homeless?
What is Homelessness?
Homelessness means not having a home, you don’t have to be living on the streets to be homeless – even if you have a roof over your head you can still be without a home. In most areas the council will help you to find accommodation.
This generally means declaring yourself homeless at your local council office and completing the appropriate application form.
